The lawsuit was filed by both the consumers of Blue Cross of California and hospitals that accept their insurance. They state that Blue Cross is illegally performing “post-claims underwriting.” In addition to illegally closing some of their clients’ policies, Blue Cross has been accused of refusing to pay for the legitimate medical procedures and necessary treatments needed by some of their clients.
When this happens, some of these patients are then forced to pay for these overwhelming medical bills on their own. The hospitals are also losing money because they have to write off thousands upon thousands of dollars of medical bills that Blue Cross refuses to pay. With the price of healthcare already at an all time high, this type of behavior drives the prices even higher.
